Why We Write workshops and Reinventing yourself in September
Dear Writers!
Much has been happening since we saw you last. Now, we’re ready to announce the first two dates of our Arts Council England-funded Why We Write workshops.
The project will kick off on Tuesday 20 October, 6-8pm with our first Why We Write event held in Studio42 in Kilburn Library, 42 Salusbury Road, NW6 6NN. We will be exploring what motivates us as writers and what we need to write, and hearing from guest speaker Shrabani Basu, an author, journalist and historian best known for Victoria & Abdul: The Extraordinary True Story of the Queen's Closest Confidant (now a major film with Judi Dench) and The Mystery of the Parsee Lawyer. If you’re in the area or know writers in north London who’d like to attend, tickets are available here.
On Tuesday 27 October, 6-8pm, at the Brighton Friends Meeting House, BN1 1AF, we’re bringing the Why We Write format back to Brighton. Guest speaker news to follow soon. Grab your place here.
Tickets for the Why We Write events are the usual £10 (+ admin fee) and we’re offering free spots to those who otherwise wouldn’t be able to come. No need to ask or explain, just pick the right ticket price when you book.
And then we’re inviting workshop participants to submit a piece on why they write for inclusion in our Showcase in June 2027 and to take part in a Facilitator workshop next summer. Find more details about all the elements of the project here. We’re really excited about connecting with writers through the Why We Write project and learning about what makes fellow creatives tick, so please spread the word!
But, before then, as we enter a new season, we will be gathering on Tuesday 29 September, 6-8pm at The Walrus, Ship Street, BN1 1AD, to discuss Reinvention as a Writer. Novelist Brooke Robinson will be talking to us about her writing career and how she has repositioned herself and her work in response to an evolving publishing landscape. It’s not one to miss. Book your spot here. We can’t wait to see you!
And right after the bank holiday, on 1 September, 7:30-9:00pm, as part of New Writing South’s First Tuesday Writers series, NSW is hosting an online workshop on Getting to Know Your Characters, with the amazing YA author Tanya Byrne. NSW is kindly offering Circle members a 20 percent discount. Use the code REALWRITERS20 when you book here.
See you soon, and as always, happy writing!
