Newsletter: July 2026

Dear Writers,

It was wonderful to spend the evening with everyone who attended our session on ghostwriting last Tuesday, as we explored the craft, author/ghostwriter dynamics, and the industry. Thank you to everyone who came, shared a story from their week, listened attentively, and filled the evening with curiosity, connection and writing wisdom.

Huge thanks to Helen Croydon, who mapped out her career from memoirist to ghostwriter and shared behind the scenes insights from her latest project, Forbidden Love.

And a big thank you Alice for sharing writing from your collection of stories. Your characters popped off the page. And massive appreciation to Cindy for treating us to the debut reading of her memoir, Don’t Call This Fiction, out in July. With everyone there and all we discussed, it was a really rich and impactful evening.

We are taking a pause over the summer and will be back with a bang in September, when we’ll be discussing Reinvention as a Writer with author Brooke Robinson. Brooke has worked as a playwright, copywriter and bookseller and is the author of three thrillers, the latest, The Arrival, published under a pseudonym. She has a lot to share on how you stay relevant (she says, staying alive) in a publishing industry grappling with AI and competing for eyeballs with streamers, TikTok, and other social media. We’ll be meeting on Tuesday 29 September 6-8pm. Venue TBC. Book your spot here.

While we take a summer break from monthly events, we shall not be lounging in a deckchair, however. As we shared on Tuesday, rather excitingly (we still can’t believe it) we have been granted Arts Council England funding for our project Why We Write. Through a series of five workshops to be held in Brighton, Folkestone, Lewisham, Kilburn and York, we will connect with writers using our three-part format (connecting, learning from a speaker and sharing work) to explore just that: why we write.

The Why We Write workshops will kick-off in the autumn and continue into 2027 and run alongside our Brighton events. Core to the project, we’ll be opening up submissions for pieces on the theme of Why We Write to be included in a showcase celebration of writing next year. And we’ll also be running trainings on how to host an RWC event. We’ll share more details about our plans and how you can get involved in due course.

Until then,

Happy writing!

Victoria and Cindy
