Newsletter: March 2026
It was lovely to meet this week and see everyone's faces in the daylight! Thank you to everyone who attended our Spring Reset, led by the wonderful Lou Tondeur. Lou has kindly supplied her workshop notes, which include exercises, goal descriptions and a list of resources. You can download them here.
At our next event we will be pulling back the curtain on a super-secretive segment of publishing: Ghostwriting. On Tuesday 28 April, 6-8pm at The Mesmerist, 1-3 Prince Albert Street, BN1 1HE, Circle member Helen Croydon will give us her insider take on ghostwriting as a career, writing challenges and solutions, and she’ll talk about her latest about-to-be-published memoir project. Book your spot here.
We’re taking a break in May to enjoy everything that is going on in Brighton over the Festival month. We’re back on Tuesday 30 June to talk about Sport in Writing. Former Lewes FC director, Karen Dobres, will join us to talk about her book, Pitch Invasion, which details her experience at the club. We’ll be meeting at the UK’s first dedicated women’s sports bar, Crossbar, 22-23 Upper North Street, BN1 3FG. Book here.
As you know, we're publishing a series of Q&A’s on our website, talking to friends of the Circle and Circle members about their writing lives, and what writers need. Check out our News page for the latest pieces from Circle regulars Estella Rua and Meesha Patricia, and guest speaker Vybarr Cregan-Reid. And catch up on pieces from our Chair Siân Prime and RWC trustee and bestselling author Samuel Burr. These are inspiring, encouraging, insightful reads. We hope you enjoy them. If you would like to contribute to our series, get in touch with Victoria.
On the same News page, you'll also find a link to our Feedback Form. We are collecting feedback from you to support our Arts Council England application. Many thanks to those of you who have already submitted their thoughts on what they like about the Circle. If you haven't yet, we would love to hear from you.
And finally, before we sign off, we'd like to let you know about a Reading Retreat in Nature in October in Finland being run by Chapter 34, an indie bookshop just down the road in Shoreham. For more info, click here.
And there's a new poetry group in Brighton focused on women writing mindful poetry about their everyday lives. It meets on the third Tuesday of every month, from 7-9pm in central Brighton and it's free. For more information, contact Jaci.
